Here is a little bit about me….

Mary Kitsmiller is a storyteller who works in paint, collage, watercolor, and digital media, weaving layers of memory, resistance, and imagination into each piece. She believes images hold power—the power to question, to heal, and to remind us of the fragility of being alive.

Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Mary finds inspiration in many corners of life. While her own challenges with chronic medical issues shape the honesty and depth of her work, they are not her only motivators. The current political climate also fuels her creativity, pushing her to respond to the world around her with bold, questioning imagery. Alongside these themes, Mary’s life as a dog sitter brings lightness and joy to her practice—her watercolor portraits celebrate the animals she cares for, capturing their personalities in playful and tender detail.

“Wonderland, for her, is not an escape but a lens—a way to see the strange beauty and contradictions of our world with sharper clarity.”

Her art is more than striking visuals—it is storytelling. Within her layers are echoes of personal memory, cultural tension, social struggle, and the quiet resilience of hope. Collectors describe her work as haunting and unforgettable, pieces that linger long after they leave the studio.

Working under the name Artist in Wanderland, Mary embraces the surreal, the dreamlike, and the unexpected. Wonderland, for her, is not an escape but a lens—a way to see the strange beauty and contradictions of our world with sharper clarity. To own one of her artworks is to carry a fragment of memory and hope, a reminder that art can both connect us and keep our stories alive.
